Study I’m Pondering: 8 Things That Make You Happy I recently finished Randy Alcorn’s mindblowing book Heaven: A Comprehensive Guide to Everything the Bible Says About Our Eternal Home (Clear Answers to 44 Real Questions About the Afterlife, Angels, Resurrection, and the Kingdom of God) —and in the process, learned about Randy’s other popular book Happiness . Both books are excellent, but the latter turned me on to this 2006 Duke University Study On Happiness . The study, which focused on life factors that contribute to “peace of mind” identified eight factors that contrib...

Friday Faves

Image
Hi friends! Happy Friday! I hope that you’re having a wonderful week. It’s been a busy but good one over year. The Pilot was gone this week, so the girls and I did the usual distance learning routine, with trips to the park and the pool to break things up, and eat squashes and gourds since the Pilot hates them. I made this pumpkin pasta this week and the girls went crazy for it! Here’s the recipe if you want to give it a whirl. It was a friend’s birthday, so we met up for a yoga class at Yoga Pod last night. The studio is absolutely gorgeous and the retail section is a gold star. I’ve been venturing back into in-studio yoga classes and it’s felt like the most luxurious treat. I’ll never take in-person yoga for granted again. (I’m ok doing yoga at home but prefer the studio atmosphere for classes. Now if we could only bring the adjustments and cold lavender washcloths back, I’d be pumped haha.) P’s little best friend is coming over this morning and this afternoon we might casually ...

Two More Podcast Appearances: Lift Free and Diet Hard AND Total Fitheads

Image
Share This: Two questions I am often asked: 1️⃣ “Tony, how is it your pecs can cut diamonds?” ANSWER: Equal parts I picked the right parents, never missing a universal bench day (every Monday) through the 90’s, and I watching and rewinding the “Arnie gets tooled up” montage from the movie Commando incessantly. Pecs by proxy. 2️⃣ “Tony, why don’t you start your own podcast?” ANSWER: Because I’d rather jump into a shark’s mouth. The only way I’d fathom starting my own podcast is if I could spend half of it talking about how to make people stronger than Mack trucks and the other half discussing geeky movie shenanigans like my favorite movie tracking shots (Copacabana nightclub scene from Goodfellas or the car attack/chase scene from Children of Men ), or why J-Lo’s badonkadonk hasn’t been given it’s only trilogy or why it hasn’t been nominated for Best Supporting Actress? Wake up Academy! The truth, however, is that I don’t feel I’d be able to drum up enough interes...

A full fall fitness plan featuring lots of workouts you can do at home.  Hi friends! I hope you’re having a wonderful day. It’s been a bit of a crazy week, so I wanted to re-share this post which has tons of new ideas for your fall fitness plans. I can’t believe the first day of fall is next week! Fall is usually such a great time to turn over a new leaf, adjust your fitness plan, and set/assess goals as we head towards the end of the year. The last few months of the year are filled with so much joy… but also events, stress, and changes. This year is also going to be a different kind of year, with extra layers of stress and unknown. With the impending holiday season, it can be even more important to take time for your health and wellness, even though it’s more challenging. Just like last year, I put together a full fall fitness plan for you! This is a mix of strength, cardio, and rest, and as always, you can shuffle it around to fit your unique needs and schedule. As always, ...

Healthy Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe with Applesauce

Image
It’s officially fall! So, I thought I’d reshare this yummy and healthy pumpkin chocolate chip cookie recipe that has been my go-to for over 15 years. Seriously, these cookies make me want to curl up in a cozy blanket in front of a roaring fireplace. Never mind we can’t actually use our fireplace (long story). But, I will be doing a lot of curling up in the next few weeks once our baby arrives! So I obviously need some cookies for that. The weather has been teasing us with some perfectly, crisp days which means it’s a perfect time for baking. Once the temperatures drop, I want to spend more time in the kitchen and particularly more time baking. And what’s fall without making a few pumpkin recipes? This Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Cookie recipe is a REALLY good one, and a much healthier option than most recipes. This recipe uses coconut sugar and whole wheat flour and the cookies come out light and fluffy, with an almost sponge cake-like texture. And the cooled cookies are just as goo...
